Tech 4 Good

The term "technological advancement" often comes with negative connotations. Most people whenever they hear this term, they thing it equals to loss of certain jobs and for other loss of cultural identity - especially when it comes to things like mobile phones and other communication technologies.

There is a side about technology that is often overlooked, and that is, technology for good. For example, decades ago, when someone lost his/her arm or leg, they would live the rest of their life unable to do the things they were able to do before losing their limbs. Now, thanks to new technologies like artificial prosthesis, amputees can perform daily activities such as walking, running, eating, dressing, and so on with ease.
In Ethiopia, an organization called, charity water installs hand water pumps that are equipped with sensors that record data on the flow of water so as to keep the donors up to date with how the water pumps are working so that help can be sent in an event that water stops coming out or the pump stops working.

Technologies that are transforming people's lives for the better are proving the fact that necessity is indeed the mother of all inventions and at the same time, they are a manifestation of how powerful a human mind is.
