Tech 4 Good

The term "technological advancement" often comes with negative connotations. Most people whenever they hear this term, they thing it equals to loss of certain jobs and for other loss of cultural identity - especially when it comes to things like mobile phones and other communication technologies. There is a side about technology that is often overlooked, and that is, technology for good. For example, decades ago, when someone lost his/her arm or leg, they would live the rest of their life unable to do the things they were able to do before losing their limbs. Now, thanks to new technologies like artificial prosthesis, amputees can perform daily activities such as walking, running, eating, dressing, and so on with ease. The Joys of Modern day Travel

  I cannot begin to imagine how long distance travel used to be pre-modern day means of travel. History has it that people walked or used domesticated animals to travel to places. For intercontinental travel, they used sail boats - most of which could not carry heavy loads. The automotive and aviation industries have revolutionized the way people travel to far and near places. Journeys that would take days, weeks, and months are now covered in less than twenty four hours or slightly over that. For example, the longest long haul flight - from Singapore to New Jersey- takes about 18hrs 30mins. This was unimaginable decades ago. It is safe to say that, humans have taken flight and are now flying with the birds.
