Cast/Mirror your screen..

Image
In case you are wondering what screen casting or mirroring is, well, don't worry, you are not alone. You see, the more technology advances, the more the jargon advances as well and sometimes - well, most of the time - it is difficult to keep up. Let me explain. So, casting or mirroring - as some companies like Samsung would call it - is a function or feature that modern smartphones have which allows the user to "project" their smartphone screen onto a smart television or laptop wirelessly. Some of the phones come with the feature already in built while others require an app to be downloaded from apps stores. Now, you do not have to limit yourself to watching things on your small smartphone screen or have people hover around you trying to catch a glimpse at what you are watching. https://www.mersive.com/blog/thought-leadership/meaning-of-screen-mirroring-screen-casting-and-screen-sharing/ Image by: APKPure.com

Music Discovery Apps; Name any song in seconds...

Image
The agony and frustration of hearing a song and not being able to know the title or the artist who did the song is a thing of the past now - well, it has been for a while - and this is because as you may know by now, technology is a gift that keeps on giving. We now have music discovery apps such as Shazam - which can be downloaded on both android and apple devices - and once opened, these apps allow the user to simply tap on a button and it starts listening for music. There is a plethora of music discovery apps besides shazam, and these include but not limited to, Sound Hound, Musix match lyrics, and many more - they all serve pretty much the same purpose. Music discovery apps coupled with the ability for people to download and share music with others on the go without it costing 'an arm and a leg', is the more reason for music lovers - like myself - to go "cuckoo for cocoa puffs." and stock up on all our favorite hits. LG has "grown" wings

Image
In an effort to remain relevant in the ever increasingly competitive business environment, companies are pushing the creativity needle to the limit and tech companies are not an exception. This is evident in the design of the recent smartphone released by South Korea's multinational electronic company LG called "LG Wing." The name - wing - is as a result of the phone looking like it has wings once it is fully extended. Incase you are wondering why someone would want a phone with two screens, well, I would think that the  reason behind the design would be to counter the "split screen" feature that most smartphones now have - a feature which allows the user to have two applications open simultaneously. At this point it remains to be seen what out of this world designs other smartphone companies will come up with to counter this one or maybe the next phone in the "wing" series could actually take flight. Fingers crossed.. Specifications Android 10 128GB ...

Tech 4 Good

The term "technological advancement" often comes with negative connotations. Most people whenever they hear this term, they thing it equals to loss of certain jobs and for other loss of cultural identity - especially when it comes to things like mobile phones and other communication technologies. There is a side about technology that is often overlooked, and that is, technology for good. For example, decades ago, when someone lost his/her arm or leg, they would live the rest of their life unable to do the things they were able to do before losing their limbs. Now, thanks to new technologies like artificial prosthesis, amputees can perform daily activities such as walking, running, eating, dressing, and so on with ease. In Ethiopia, an organization called, charity water installs hand water pumps that are equipped with sensors that record data on the flow of water so as to keep the donors up to date with how the water pumps are working so that help can be sent in an event that ...

The Joys of Modern day Travel

Image
I cannot begin to imagine how long distance travel used to be pre-modern day means of travel. History has it that people walked or used domesticated animals to travel to places. For intercontinental travel, they used sail boats - most of which could not carry heavy loads. The automotive and aviation industries have revolutionized the way people travel to far and near places. Journeys that would take days, weeks, and months are now covered in less than twenty four hours or slightly over that. For example, the longest long haul flight - from Singapore to New Jersey- takes about 18hrs 30mins. This was unimaginable decades ago. It is safe to say that, humans have taken flight and are now flying with the birds.

Who is a Friend??

It is safe to say that the term friendship or the use of the word friend, carries a different meaning now than it did a few decades back. I don't know know how others who were born before technological advancements - especially those born before the new millennium - would describe who a friend is, but for me, what i do remember is that a friend meant someone who lived next door to our house, attended the same school or shared the same class/desk with, a friend of friend or a child to my parents' friends and so on. In short, a friend was someone known personally, interacted/played with on a regular if not daily basis. There is a plethora of definitions out there when it comes to talking about who a friend is. The Oxford dictionary puts it this way, "a friend is a person with whom one has a bond of mutual affection; typically one exclusive of sexual or family relations. Going by this definition, what it means then is that social media platforms like Facebook have it all wro...

Dating Apps..A Necessary Evil?

Image
Tinder, Bumble, Match, to mention but a few. All these applications (Apps) and a thousand more have one thing in common; dating. They are platforms meant for single people to meet other singles to chat with, go on dates with and possibly get into a relationship with. Some marriages are as result of these dating apps. Each app is specifically customized to meet specific preferences. According to Pew Research Center, online dating is especially popular among certain groups - particularly among young adults and those who identify as Lesbian, gay, and bisexual. What has changed now? Well, it would seem that dating apps make it somewhat easy for people to find others that they find physically attractive and share common interests with. Other positive attributes include the ease and efficie...
